SmarterTravel Spotlight: Spring Creek Ranch, Jackson Hole

SmarterTravel

A stone’s throw from the heart of Jackson Hole is a hilltop retreat with far-flung views of Grand Teton National Park’s wild plains and iconic peaks. Spring Creek Ranch is an upper-mid-range Jackson Hole lodging option with luxury views; it sits adjacent to the famed (and sky-high expensive) Amangani resort.

Cabin-style rooms and suites situated around a main lodge guarantee breakfast-table vistas, plus access to on-site horseback riding stables, an outdoor pool, and a 24-hour hot tub. It’s a relaxing getaway for couples and families alike.

The Location

Spring Creek Ranch

Located along the main route between Jackson Town Square and Grand Teton National Park, Spring Creek Ranch is a midway point between bustling downtown and the vast wilderness of the Grand Tetons. This is perfect for avoiding traffic on your morning drive to the park, while also remaining close to all the dining, shopping, and nightlife Jackson boasts without having to stay in the same place as all the crowds. You’ll need a car to get just about anywhere in Jackson, but especially to Spring Creek Ranch—it’s a winding mile-long car ride uphill from the National Elk Refuge (which is what those sprawling views will be of).

The Rooms

Rustic cabin-style rooms with stone fireplaces (and central heating, albeit somewhat outdated in some cabins) overlook the ranch’s grounds and bubbling fish ponds. The far-off Tetons are in sight from most rooms via outdoor porches and/or balconies, depending on whether you get an upper or lower-level room. Ask for an upper-level room for better views plus an improved chance of a slightly more updated interior. The fireplaces are old-fashioned wood burning chimneys, with fire starters and wood piles placed around the property for you to use on your own—or ask the front desk for some assistance.

Dining

Spring Creek Ranch’s on-site restaurant, The Granary restaurant and bar, is frequented by Jackson visitors (even those not staying at the ranch) for its well-known views of the National Elk Refuge. Enjoy complimentary breakfast downstairs daily to fuel up before a full day of hiking, or watch cows and elk graze below at sunset over a drink in the upstairs bar and lounge. The Granary often hosts live music, and also offers gourmet dinners ranging from bison filet to vegetarian options.

Next door at Amangani, visitors can splurge on a reservation at The Grill for either breakfast, lunch, or dinner with accompanying vistas.
