Use these tips to get to and around Toledo.
Toledo Public Escalator
To relieve the congestion from the sheer number of tourists walking in and out of the walled city of Toledo from the Bisagra and Cambrón Gates, the city built a public escalator along Paseo de Recaredo, beside the Hacienda del Cardenal. It leads to Subida Granja at the top, beside the Diputación Provincial de Toledo building.
The escalators are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.
The cheapest way to get to Toledo is to take the ALSA bus from the Plaza Eliptica Bus Station. A one-way ticket costs 5,42 EUR (2016) and the ride takes around one hour. Tickets are available from the driver.
The HopOn/HopOff bus in Toledo is very convenient and very inexpensive. It stops at several different entrances to the walled city, as well as at some of the major sites outside of the walled city. Toledo is a very hilly town, so the HOHO bus makes good sense for most people.
You can also take the AVE high speed train from Atocha railway station, but it costs almost twice as much, and it only saves you 20 minutes. Also, you’ll have to spend around 15 minutes going through railway station security before departure.
Some people say that it takes fifteen minutes to get historical center of Toledo from the railway station by walk. That’s true, but only if you’re in good physical condition, have no luggage and are younger than 60. It’s better to catch a cab from the taxi stop at the railway station entrance/exit. It will cost about 7 Euros and take 10 minutes.
