Penang Warnings and Dangers
Penang is a city located on the northwestern coast of peninsular Malaysia. The city is said to be a good example of a place that combines cultural elements of both the east and west simultaneously. This is mostly due to its broad ethnic range. The city has many popular attractions fueling its tourism industry. Here are some warnings and dangers you should pay attention to make your trip as safe as possible.
Leave the Wild Monkeys
One peculiar trait of the city is the fact that there are wild monkeys found all over it. It is not a good idea to bother them if you run into them on Penang Hill. Monkeys are impossible to predict, even ones that are the cutest and nicest could attack if they become scared or intimidated. Monkeys are also known to try to take food from people in the area.
There have been some reports of pickpockets in Hin Bus 101. They will often use scams and disguises to distract you and try to take your money.
Penang is in a tropical location near the water. This means that there is going to be a lot of mosquitoes in the area. Be sure to pack mosquito repellant and even have a mosquito net in your hotel room at night when you sleep. There is a funny old saying in the town that says that the bugs only bite tourists in the area, not the locals.
When it rains on Penang Hill, it rains for a long time. Avoid going there on a rainy day because most of the attractions are outside. To fully experience the town you need to go on a day with great weather.
