Tips on Avoiding Wisconsin Dells Tourist Traps

Wisconsin Dells Tourist Traps

Many people consider the Wisconsin Dells as one giant tourist trap and say that’s part of the appeal. However, you want to spend your money on the fun stuff and not get snared into the traps that waste time or money during your trip.

Don’t Pay Full Price

Many places at The Dells will advertise “today only” but those prices are just the regular prices. Also, all the local places give out coupons for other attractions, so you can usually find some discounts this way. There are also ticket vendors that give you a percent off for going to multiple attractions.

Top Secret – The Secret Is Its Lame

You’re sucked in by advertising stating “it’s classified.” The Top Secret Attraction Special is an upside replica of the White House and is designed like a fun-house but aimed at making fun of U.S. politics. There are a few upside down rooms, a confusing dig site, some labeled boxes and Bigfoot in a cage. Nothing really interesting or special for the price you pay for admission.

The Fun Stuff

As a general “tourist trap” at Wisconsin Dells you’ll see the standard wax museums, gift shops and Ripley’s Believe it or Not. However, they do point out all the fun stuff there is to do too. A few things to check out that they say are worthwhile are:

  • Go-Karts
  • Tommy Bartlett Thrill Show
  • Robot World
  • Noah’s Ark Waterpark
  • Mount Olympus

These are family-friendly places with something for everyone. But if you really don’t want to stay in the “touristy” areas, fun alternatives are Mirror Lake State Park and Devil’s Lake State Park for great outdoor recreation and scenery, including canoeing.
