Abu Dhabi Warnings and Dangers
  • Abu Dhabi Warnings and Dangers

  • As the capital city of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi has much to offer. Even so, there are warnings and dangers that you will want to keep in mind when you travel to make sure you stay safe.

  • Be Sure to Dress Properly

  • Abu Dhabi is a Muslim city, so you have to respect the customs. Be careful with what you wear. This is especially true for women traveling to this city. You will want to avoid short skirts and clothes that leave a lot of skin in public view. Dress conservatively and you should be fine.

  • Sandstorms can Happen Quickly

  • A sandstorm can happen quickly. If you are out in the open desert, they can be a real problem. There will be a thick layer of powdery sand on your face. The sand gets into your nose, ears, and eyes. You can't open your eyes unless you're wearing specs or goggles. In the city, it's not as bad because the tall buildings filter out the storm, but nevertheless, the air is filled with fine sand or dust particles which are not particularly healthy, especially if you have a history of breathing problems.

Try not to be outdoors too long during a sandstorm. Drink lots of water and keep a handkerchief or cloth handy to cover your nose and mouth. Don't leave the door open, as the wind will push all the sand indoors. Visibility will be poor, so be careful while driving. In general, try to stay indoors during a sandstorm.
