Ranau Things to Do
Ranau is a town on the island of Borneo that is notable for its agricultural position. Though not an especially large city, there are several things to do when in the area.
Relaxing in Nature
The Poring Hot Springs is a natural spa with several communal pools and a number of private tubs. There’s also a nearby cave noted for the number of bats that call it home, though visitors should stay out of the cave itself. Most visitors to this part of the city prefer to simply relax in the springs.
There are also a number of gardens that visitors can find in the city. The Boreno Memorial Garden is distinctive in design from the Australian and British memorial gardens. The Borneo Garden is filled with local plant species representing much of what you can see in the surrounding jungles and rainforests.
The Borneo Garden is seated next to British and Australia gardens at the Kundasang War Memorial. These beautiful gardens commemorate the victims of the Sandakan Death Marches, in which more than 2,000 Australian and British prisoners of war were forced to march across Sabah. The gardens themselves are a popular draw for tourists.
Visitors may want to visit this street in Ranau. Here, the Chinese temple is adjacent to the town’s church, and both are just down the road from a mosque. There’s interesting architecture and statues to see in this area.
