Take the Train to Get Around

San Lorenzo de El Escorial is accessible by train from just about every train station in the Madrid area. The station for the city is located a little outside of the town. To get into the town, you need to take a bus from the train station. These shuttles run every twenty minutes, which the usual duration of the trip.

Drive Into the city 

Another option is to drive into the city. The trip from the city of Madrid takes about an hour by car. There are two different highways you can take to get there. First, you take the A-6 Northwest and then cut over into town on C-505. This is a very popular way to get to the town from Madrid because of the sightseeing you can do along the way.

From Madrid to San Lorenzo de El Escorial by Bus 

It is also possible to access the city from Madrid via bus from Moncloa Metro Station. The bus runs from the station from 6 in the morning until 10 at night. Like the drive, the bus trip from Madrid takes around one hour each way. Be aware that there are fewer trips running on Sundays.
