North Carolina – What to Pack – Clothing and Supplies Tips

North Carolina What to Pack

The Tar Heel State is a beautiful and wonderful outdoor playground. You’ll stay prepared for the varying weather changes after you know what to pack below.

A Four-Season State

You won’t need any fancy clothes here unless you plan on staying in a very up-market hotel, but you do need to pack a variety of clothing to cope with the very mixed weather. In two weeks in July, for example, there is usually quite a bit of rain but also some hot and sunny days. So pack layers, bring a waterproof jacket, and include good walking shoes for hikes and flip flops for the beach. You’ll be able to buy most things, but don’t forget your prescription medicines as always, and insect repellent and sunscreen will also be useful.

Other Tips for North Carolina Packing

If you’re taking a road trip through the state, maps are recommended. Rand McNally has some of the better (more accurate) maps of the Carolinas and Frommers has a top-of-the-line guide to what to see and do. They take up a lot less room and cost a lot less than those electronic gadgets. If you are in an AAA, then you can get the maps from them, but their guides are not as good as Frommer’s. Barnes and Noble’s bookstores have a good selection of maps and guides to choose from.

Bug repellent is a great idea, there are plenty of ponds, lakes, and wetlands. And as always, when you’re traveling be sure to take your camera, and other electronics.
