Getting to Khajuraho is an adventure in itself, this place’s at the end of the world! There are several transportation options to get you there and also around town after your arrival.

Getting to Khajuraho by Air

Traveling to Khajuraho by air is your quickest and most comfortable option. Khajuraho has daily domestic flights to and from Agra, Varanasi, Delhi and Kathmandu. Being Khajuraho is such a small airport, seats sell out quickly, be sure to book in advance. Flying is more expensive than other travel options.

Arriving by Bus or Taxi

Vehicle travel into Khajuraho takes several hours (and this will depend upon where your starting point is). There are regular bus services which go through Khajuraho from Jhansi, Mahoba, Satna, Harpalpur and Agra. There are also tourist deluxe buses that will take you to Khajuraho. Be warned, some of the bus rides are bumpy! On the plus side, buses stop at various small villages, so there should be plenty of opportunities to grab samosas, pakoras, fresh fruit and drinks along the way. Taking a taxi is another option, it’s expensive but still cheaper than flying. If you can find someone to split the fare with, even better.

Getting Around Khajuraho

To explore Khajuraho you can hire a camel, rickshaw, taxi or jeep to take you around. Before you hire anyone, be sure to agree on a price before you start off and check that this price includes waiting time while you see the sights.

Renting a bicycle is a fun and inexpensive way to get around. Rentals can be found at various places in the village (just look for the signs). Bicycles are not allowed inside the temple complexes so make sure you have a good lock.
