CDC Takes 6 Countries Off Do Not Travel List

Good news and bad news from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as the agency has taken six countries off of their “do not travel” list. Gabon, South Korea, Spain, Czech Republic, Faroe Islands, and Uganda were all deemed as doing well enough in the pandemic to be moved down to the CDC’s Level 3 ranking (COVID-19 High).

However, four more countries had their warning level raised to Level 4: Avoid travel. The countries now listed as Level 4 are:

  • Belarus
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Romania
  • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

According to the CDC, travelers should avoid travel to Level 4 destinations regardless of vaccination status. For Level 3 destinations, the CDC recommends travelers be fully vaccinated before travel, and that unvaccinated travelers should avoid nonessential travel.

The CDC uses COVID data from the World Health Organization and other official sources to determine warning levels for countries. Destinations with more than 500 new COVID cases per 100,000 people are ranked as Level 4. Level 3 countries are those with 100-500 COVID new cases per 100,000 people.
