Warnings and Dangers in Dallas: Areas to Avoid

Dallas draws travelers from around the world for its many attractions. But like any large city, is has some areas to avoid. Here’s what you need to know about the most dangerous areas in Dallas.

Areas to Avoid in Dallas

Western Park in Southwest Oak Cliff, West Dallas, Pleasant Grove, and South Dallas are significant areas to avoid in Dallas due to drug crime, gang violence, and, in the case of West Dallas, prostitutes. These areas are rife with cheap hotels and motels that may house drug users and other unsavory characters.

Know Where You’re Going

Dallas is not the kind of city where you should wander without a destination in mind. Always know where you’re going and what you want to see. Don’t go to an area of Dallas without a specific destination in mind, or you may find yourself in an area which is not well-policed, where criminal activity is more likely to take place, or where you are isolated from help. Take a car service, like a taxi or Uber, if you’re in an area that looks run-down, especially at night.

Be Wary at Red Lights

If you’re a pedestrian, beware of drivers running red lights. Be especially careful before crossing the street. If you’re driving in Dallas, avoid talking on your cell phone or driving distracted. In certain areas, you may be more susceptible to a carjacking if you appear distracted while driving or stopped at a red light.
