Tips on Nottingham Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Nottingham Warnings and Dangers

Nottingham is among the most famous cities in England and is linked to some of the country’s most popular legends. While a major sporting center and city of culture, it also has its share of crime, and visitors should take specific precautions when visiting.

Gun Crime

Nottingham has some gun crime. The few shootings that do occur tend to be confined to poorer residential areas. There is rarely any such violence in the commercial center.

The St. Ann’s and Meadows areas are best avoided at night, as the most violent gangs are based in those areas. St. Ann’s is to the northeast of the Victoria bus station, while The Meadows is to the south of the Nottingham train station. Radford and Forest Fields are also areas to avoid at night. Tourists are generally safe visiting the city, but should avoid these areas of Nottingham as a precaution.

Other Crimes

Being a big city means that Nottingham has its share of crime. However, like every big city, so long as you keep your wits about you and stick to busy areas, take taxis, and don’t walk home alone, you should be fine. Be sensible and don’t venture into the dodgier areas. There are pickpockets in some parts of the town, and knife robberies are not unheard of. There are illegal activities such as prostitution and drug use in the area of St. Ann’s, the Meadows, Radford, and Forest Fields.

Trams

Most people don’t think of trams when they think about dangers in a city, but the trams in Nottingham can pose an interesting threat to unaware visitors. You must be aware of the trams that are found all over Nottingham. It’s dangerous not to pay attention, since you cannot always hear the trams coming. Make sure you take care when crossing the roads in the town center because quite often you’ll find trams and cars everywhere. There are also no fences to protect pedestrians from the tramlines, so whenever you walk across them, be sure to look both ways first.
