Temples and Shrines

Most of the major attractions of Yokohama are not more than 150 years old but the city also has numerous religious places with history dating back hundreds of years. Temples and shrines in the area include: Gumyoji Temple, Bugenji Temple, Shomyoji Temple, Shirane Fudo Shrine (also known as the Shirane Fudo Temple), Mitsuike Ryujingu, Substitute Jizo, Sengen-jinja, Kamenokoishi, Kamoi Sugiyama, Kodo Kyoden Buddhist Temple and the Tomyoji Temple Buildings in Sankeien.

Minato Mirai 21

A very modern place, the Minato Mirai 21 is the futuristic looking area of central Yokohama and is one of the best places for a tourist to see. The most prominent building is the Landmark Tower, Japan’s tallest skyscraper, which stands 972 feet high. The area offers lots of shops and restaurants, along with a lovely sunset. The world’s third largest Ferris wheel can be found here too.

Parks

While Yokohama has its tall buildings, there are also many open spaces designated as parks. Whether you want to photograph cherry blossoms, sit and relax, or walk through the lovely grounds, there are plenty of places to go, such as, Odori Park, Shikinomori Park, Yamashita Park, Mitsuike Park, Kishine Park, Shirane Park Shirahataike Park (Municipal Park) and adjoining Shinohara-enchi (Prefectural Park), Kogaya Park and Tanmachi Park.

Other things you can do is go stroll through Chinatown, visit the Shinyokohama Ramen Museum, shop at the historic Red Brick Warehouse, see the aquarium in Yokohama, or explore the Yokohama Port area. If you’re up for an adventure, take a walk across the Yokohama Bay Bridge along the “Sky Walk” promenade. The possibilities of things to do in this city are endless.
