A tricked-out treehouse with indoor plumbing, a bedside basketball court, even a mini-Moscow in the heart of the desert—these hotel rooms have everything you’ve ever dreamed of and much, much more. And you thought the mini-bar in your room was exotic!
Tsala Treetop Villa (Tsala, South Africa)
A regular tree-house looks like child’s play compared to the Treetop Villas at Tsala (pictured above). The villas include all the luxury amenities you’d expect on the ground—a kitchenette, plunge pool, air conditioning, and an outdoor shower on a private deck—but it’s all high above ground, up in the treetop. How they get indoor plumbing and electricity up there, we have no idea.
Hardwood Suite (Palms Las Vegas)
Also known as the Baller Basketball Luxury Hotel Suite, you’ll certainly feel like an NBA star when you stay in this room. With 10,000 square feet and two floors, you’ll have plenty of space to practice your moves on the half-court indoor basketball court, party on your personal dance floor, and get ready for a night on the town in your own professional locker room. Even the beds are NBA-sized!
The Mine Suite (Sala Silvermine, Sweden)
Claustrophobics and trapped Chilean miners, this room is not for you. The world’s deepest hotel room is located in a silver mine in Sweden, and you can spend the night way down underground at the Mine Suite. You’ll definitely be disconnected from the outside world, as cell phones don’t work so far underground. (But you will have an intercom radio to communicate with the above-ground staff.)
Lennon Suite (Hard Days Night Hotel, England)
Sorry, Ringo fans—this Beatles-themed hotel in Liverpool only has a Lennon Suite and a McCartney Suite, and it’s clear to see which one is the favorite. The Lennon Suite costs almost $1,500 per night, whereas Paul’s is around a paltry $1,100.
The Graceland Suite (Heartbreak Hotel, Memphis)
Book a romantic getaway for your “hunk of burning love” in the Graceland Suite at the Heartbreak Hotel. Designed to look like a mini-version of Graceland Mansion, the suite includes rooms sytled after Elvis’ own living room, dining room, billiard room and even his jungle-themed den.
Red Room (Moscow Hotel, Dubai)
Dying to visit Russia, but found cheaper flights to Dubai? Never fear, just book yourself into the Moscow Hotel, located in downtown Dubai. Check into the Red Room, turn up the air conditioning, and embrace the hotel’s slogan—”Where you stay like a Czar!”
Le Jardin (Gadds Town House, England)
Do you like camping, but hate the outdoors? Reserve Le Jardin room at Gadds Town House in Durham, and you’ll have the best of the outdoors (sunshine, grass, views), without all the downfalls (bugs, tents, bears). The room comes with a “grass” carpet, private hot tub, an actual bed, and floor to ceiling windows. Beat that, mother nature!
Gas Station Room (V8 Hotel, Germany)
Normally if you’re spending the night at a gas station, either something has gone horribly wrong on a road-trip or your life has taken a terrible turn. Not so if you park yourself at the Gas Station room at Boblingen’s V8 Hotel room, which features a gas pump and furniture made from auto-parts. Plus, you’ll get to sleep in a race car bed!
Panic Room (Au Vieux Panier, France)
We wonder if they charge a damage deposit at the Panic Room at Marseille’s Au Vieux Panier. Half the room’s already covered in graffiti (and we do mean exactly half—even the bedspread is split down the middle with one side pristine white and one side tagged). However, the room is by the artist Tilt, and is part of the hotel’s ever changing design in which six artists create six different rooms each year, so don’t go drawing on the walls yourself.
Barbie Suite (Palms Las Vegas)
How many of us wished we were small enough to fit in our Barbie’s Malibu Dream House? Now the house has grown to fit us, and come to life at the Palms Las Vegas’ Barbie Suite. The dream house has been updated for the modern girl, with a Jacuzzi tub, two-way fire place, Jonathan Adler interior design, and a whole lot of pink. The room holds 50 people (although it only sleeps four), so invite Ken, Skipper, and the whole gang!
Which room would you most like to stay in? What’s the most exotic place you’ve ever stayed? Tell us in the comments!
