In between trolling the Web for insane travel deals and dreaming of faraway places, we spotted some juicy travel stories this week that we’d love to share: Tips for keeping healthy on the road, the most adorable travel blog on the planet (based on an informal survery of our editorial department), overpriced pajamas that impersonate travel clothes, and more.
A Moveable Feet
We just came across one of the few travel blogs that we can safely describe as adorable: Feet First. Photographer Tom Robinson started snapping photos of his and his wife’s feet in various destinations: feet in the ocean, feet in a green pasture, feet dangling above a view of Machu Picchu. Then something happened to shake up the whole concept—the couple had a baby. Now the pictures feature an adorable (yes, we’re using that word again) trio of big and baby feet appearing in the foreground of cool travel pictures.
The World’s Most Expensive Pajamas
Travel clothes that feel like pajamas—it’s a concept that anyone who’s ever flown in skinny jeans could love. So we browsed through the slideshow of pajama-like duds by designer Piamita on Conde Nast Traveler’s The Daily Traveler blog. That first shot of the red-and-white shirt looks like … pajamas. So far, we’re not impressed. But a few of the blouses and shift dresses are cute. We ran a search for some of the clothes on Google Shopping and woah—pants cost $260. A crewneck tee costs $140. On second thought, we’ll just stick with our PajamaJeans, thank you.
The Ultimate Staycation
This week, World Hum called attention to Jonathan Stern’s satirical piece of travel writing that appeared in a 2006 edition of The New Yorker. The Lonely Planet Guide to My Apartment is exactly what its name suggests. It’s a travel guide to some guy’s apartment. And it’s sidesplitting. Read about the local food district (“with its colorful cereal boxes”), festivals (“making out with a girl”), and local customs (“usually, meals are taken during reruns of Stargate Atlantis“) in this wondrous destination.
Annihilate the Airplane Cold
It seems like it’s always cold season on planes, where sneezing, sniffling passengers are stuffed side-by-side with healthy flyers. That’s why we like to arm ourselves with as many travel health tips as possible. Find some good ones in Karen’s Rules: How to Fly Around the World and Not Get Sick, a post on Consumer Traveler. Our favorite: ditch the in-flight alcohol. Sure, a stiff drink makes it easier to relax when forced to wear something other than pajamas. But dehydration does not make for a pumped up immune system.
