What We’re Reading: Celebrities Take on the TSA?

This week, we stumbled upon a story about celebrities taking on the TSA, but were surprised to learn that their protest methods are only slightly more revolutionary than an eye roll and an audible sigh. Read about this and other travel news in our weekly roundup of hot travel topics.

Celebrities Take on the TSA?

USA Today reports that celebrities Jennifer Hudson and Bar Refaeli “protested TSA patdowns.” But we think the publication may have been taking a few liberties with the p-word. According to the story, Hudson “reacted by scrunching her face and sticking out her tongue as the female agent carried on her duties,” and Refaeli tweeted that her pat-down made her feel “very uncomfortable.” Where’s the civil disobedience? The angry signage? The protest songs (we’re looking at you, Hudson)? Perhaps they should take some cues from this guy.

10 Annoying Things About Air Travel

Like complaining about air travel? Who doesn’t? In case your own misadventures in the sky haven’t given you enough rant-fodder, stock up on these grievances about air travel rules and regulations, courtesy of Yahoo. The site lists 10 things to groan about, from the TSA permitting gel-filled bras but not gel shoe inserts to carry-on bag weight limits. One thing they’re missing: a good joke or two. Complain too much about a subject without throwing in a few witticisms and you end up sounding like a certain Sesame Street character.

Where Cherry Garcia Is Born

Januted’s story about a Ben & Jerry’s factory tour had us craving a pint of Chubby Hubby and a trip to the gorgeous Vermont countryside. The tour, which takes you through the Waterbury, Vermont, factory where the sweet stuff is made, ends with a fresh sample of just-churned ice cream, which “was even tastier straight from the factory,” according to Jaunted. Don’t miss the photo of the Flavor Graveyard—it actually has tombstones for tragically retired ice cream flavors like Holy Cannoli and Makin’ Woopie Pie. May they melt in peace.

The Most Unique Use of an Airplane Toilet Seat Cover … Ever

This is, without a doubt, the most creative way to pass the time on a plane we’ve seen yet. When traveler Nina Katchadourian is jetting through the sky, she goes into the airplane lavatory and takes photos of herself dressed up like a person in a 15th-century Dutch painting. Really. To heighten the effect, she makes use of what she’s got: paper toilet-seat covers, inflatable neck pillows, airplane blankets. Whether you think it’s weird or hilarious, you have to admit, it’s an original concept. See the photos on Sad and Useless.
