The Golden Age of Train Travel

According to train historian and author Karl Zimmermann, “Before the advent of air conditioning, which gained popularity in the thirties, soot and cinders from steam locomotives would blow in through open windows.”

China’s Ultra-Rich Travelers Don’t Actually Travel All That Much
If you were worth $1.6 million, how much would you travel? Chinese millionaires, it turns out, aren’t exactly the most zealous jet setters.
This week, Skift reports on the spending behavior of the one percent in China. A study of 100 Chinese people worth 10 million yuan ($1.6 million) or more showed that wealthy Chinese took about 2.8 trips in 2012 (a slightly lower number compared to 2011). The top five countries they visited the most are, respectively, France, the U.S., Singapore, Switzerland, and the U.K.
