Villefranche-sur-Mer Transportation

One of the many small villages that hug the Mediterranean shore line on the French Riviera, Villefranche-sur-Mer is only about 30 minutes from the Nice airport. Here are some tips on how to get there and how to get around.

Getting There

The transportation hub of the Riviera is Nice, with domestic and international flights arriving daily.

Shuttle buses, train service and taxis are available to transfer from the airport to points along the Côte d’Azur.

Train

Just outside of the arrivals gate is the local train service TER that will take you from the airport to Villefranche-sur-Mer in about an hour. There is a change of trains at the main train station, Gare de Nice-Ville. The fare is about $2.50 per person. The train takes you directly to Villefranche-sur-Mer

NOTE: The station is next to the quay and to reach the square in the village you need to climb steep stairs. It is not wheelchair / Stroller accessible.

Transfers

You can arrange for transfer service from Nice directly into the hotel prior to arrival. Driver will meet your flight and assist with luggage. If you need wheelchair or car seats please let the company know prior to arrival. The cost is about $20.00. There are also transfer shuttle buses that run about $10.00 and can be found in the ground transportation area.

Car Rental

The drive, while on a map it might look like a straight shot, part of the road is the Basse Corniche down to the old town with hairpin curves and narrow road. During the summer months it’s very heavy traffic and might be slower than normal. Due to limited space, it is also difficult and expensive to park.

Getting Around

Walking is the easiest way to get around the small village. There are bike rentals and for those who are adventurous segways.
