Vietnam Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Tips

Vietnam Transportation

Getting around Vietnam means picking between varied modes of transport including buses, taxis and trains. A visit here takes some advance planning but it’s worth it to explore the cuisine, lush landscape and nearly untouched beaches.

The Airport

Located in Ho Chi Minh City, Tan Son Nhat International Airport is the largest airport in Vietnam and the country’s only international airport. You can fly into this airport and then take cheap regional flights if you’re planning to tour the rest of the country. Local taxis and buses will bring you directly to the city from the area airport.

Buses and Trains

Buses are trains are two of the most popular forms of transportation in Vietnam. They’re cheap and they go everywhere. You can also catch one from China at Nanning to Hanoi. The first bus brings you to the border and then you board a second bus for the trip to the city. Bear in mind bus travel is slow. The roads are not well kept and the speed limit is not high even on highways. Travel by train faster but not as versatile. The cars have three seating classes and four sleeping classes.

Taxis

Taxis are more expensive than buses but faster. You can take taxis in the country’s major cities. You can hail one on the street or have your hotel call a company for you.

By Car

Cars are the most expensive mode of transport but one of the easiest. This is an form of transport if you have a lot of people in your party or someone with mobility issues.
