One great time to tour the city via Gondola is just before sunset. The gondola is the traditional means of transportation historically in the city. You can get a good taste for the history of the city during one of these rides. Most riders negotiate the route and the amount with the driver before they head out.
Visit Piazza San Marco
The Piazza San Marco is the main square in town. It is actually divided into two squares and houses many of the cities most important buildings, including the Basilica San Marco and the Campanile. The square was built during the 11th century. It is one of the central gathering places for tourists visiting the city because of all the famous and historic buildings located there. The square is also a home to a lot of pigeons. Many tourists like to take pictures of and even with them while in the square.
This is the most famous bridge in a city filled with bridges. If you think it looks familiar, it probably does. The Rialto Bridge has been copied numerous times around the world by other architects.
