When you are traveling to Vashon Island, just off of Seattle, Washington there are a couple of things you need to know about getting around. When you learn these facts, you’ll be able to make your way around like an old pro.

Taking the Ferry

There are two ferry terminals that exist on Vashon Island. This is the only way to get to and from the island for the general public. While there is a chance that you could use something like a helicopter to get to the island, that is hardly the most used way to get to and from Vashon Island. For those who arrive before the Ferry is ready to take off, there is a little waiting room that has a couple of little amenities such as vending machines and drinking fountains. These terminals are not built to be places where large crowds are hanging out for hours at a time, but they can accommodate those who have just arrived and are waiting for the next boat.

Bus routes to the Ferry

One of the nice things about Vashon Island is that there is mass transit that will get anyone on the island to the ferry terminals so they head over the water to Seattle. The buses go by the official name of King County Metro bus route 118. One caveat with the convenience of this bus route, is knowing exactly when a bus is going to be a bit of a challenge. The service usually runs Monday through Friday, though the schedule can be a bit irregular. Checking the schedule the day you are on the island is a must.
