Varanasi Nightlife – Clubs, Bars & Nightlife Tips

Varanasi Nightlife

Varanasi is located in northern India in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It is considered one of India’s seven sacred cities, and the modern-day version of it is divided into “ghats” where some nightlife activity occurs.

Recommended Places

Much of Varanasi is quiet. People start their days earlier here than, for example, in New York City or another metropolitan location. However, travelers often visit sections of Varanasi to experience the area’s history and culture. Here’s a list of Varanasi places that are recommend to travelers:

  • The Ganges River banks – Day or night, this spot is one of the most popular places in Varanasi. It’s an excellent place to just sit and relax and perhaps watch the sunset or sunrise. Although it might be a popular spot, you still have the chance to experience serenity during quiet times.
  • Manikarnika Ghat music performances – This night club is not easy to spot if you’re not paying attention. It’s not the most prestigious little club, but you could hear some amazing music delivered by some of the best independent musicians. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere, and the people are quite friendly. Everyone usually sits with their legs crossed on the floor, which can be taxing if you have bad knees.
  • Shanti Guest House neighborhood – This area of the Manikarnika Ghat is known for its somber activities that include memorials that last all night. However, there also are some celebrations that include songs and chats, although most of it is for spiritual reasons. Visiting this location might be more educational than fun, but it’s an experience you will never forget.
  • Dasaswamedh Ghat – In this area of Varasani, many happier celebrations take place. Every day people are getting married, and people sing here all night long. It’s not as somber as the area near the Shanti Guest house, but it will also provide you an unforgettable experience. You might get to know some of the nearby residents. In the process, you will learn more about one of India’s most famous and oldest cities.
