US Air to Join Oneworld in November (Maybe)

Take a Walking Tour

According to a thread on Flyertalk devoted to the American-US Airways merger, US Airways will join the oneworld global airline alliance on November 1.

Since neither US Airways nor oneworld has confirmed the date, it must be viewed more as a strong possibility than as a given. But it’s a useful reminder that, whatever the cutover date turns out to be, US Airways’ participation in the Star Alliance is in its final months.

For U.S.-based travelers, Star is generally considered to be the superior alliance, with more airline partners than oneworld, and less egregious fuel surcharges for award travel.

So, if you have miles in US Airways’ Dividend Miles program and plan to redeem them for award travel on a Star Alliance partner airline, bear in mind that time is running out. Book your flights while you still can.
