Many MileagePlus members were angered and disappointed by United's announcement that
prices will be raised
for a slew of award flights.
Perhaps this
new award discount
is United's way of making amends.
Between November 7 and November 19, MileagePlus members can save 20 percent when booking Saver award flights to Europe between January 13 and March 11, 2014.
Only United flights are discounted—no partner flights.
The discount applies to roundtrip coach flights. But in the event a Saver award is not available on one leg of a roundtrip, a standard award may be booked in its place and the discount will still apply to the qualifying Saver segment.
Roundtrip Saver awards are normally priced at 60,000 miles. With the discount, the price would be 48,000 miles.
