Ulaanbaatar Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Trips

Ulaanbaatar Transportation

Getting to Ulaanbaatar is one thing, but what about transportation once you get there? If you want the best Ulaanbaatar transportation tips on how to get around town, here you’ll find information about taxi, train, bus and airport trips from other visitors to the city.

Bus

You’ll find that there is at least one daily bus from the capital to Mörön. It leaves from Dragon Bus Station. The trip takes about 14 hours and the ticket costs 32.000 TG. You can also catch abus from Mörön to Ullaanbaatar.

Train

There is a large train station on Peace Ave near Chinggis Ave. If you arrive by train from Russia or from China can’t miss this railway station, however if you enter Ulaanbaatar by bus from Ulan Ude (which may be cheaper than train) you may not see the train station. It is also close to several hotels making it even easier to hop on a train during your stay.

Airport

There are two bus lines travelling from the airport to the city, though many visitors just take taxis.  Bus 11 heads to the airport (nisekh) in front of the Bayangol Hotel, on Chinggis Avenue. You can purchase your bus ticket inside the bus for around 500 TG and the trip takes about 40 minutes. Look for the route “Nisekh – Mubis”

Taxi

There are many taxi companies here, as well as individuals who offer rides to tourists. The going rate is around T300-350 per kilometer, but they do often try to charge a foreigner even more.

Tip: Be on guard. Always negotiate the fare in advance and don’t be fooled by tricks like “I meant 3,000 for each of you.” If this happens, firmly drop the previously agreed to amount of money on the back seat and walk away.
