Tuk Tuks in Phuket
When it comes to transportation in Phuket, Tuk tuks are a very popular option. They’re plentiful, inexpensive, and easy to find: the small, brightly colored “vans” have seating for two to four people. They congregate in particular around popular tourist areas, clubs, and shopping locations.
Tuk tuks are everywhere in Phuket and the surrounding areas. Bangkok also has tuk tuks, but they’re regarded to be safer in Phuket. Exercise good judgment if a driver is erratic, of course, and set a rate before getting in to avoid being overcharged. Overall, tuk tuks are cheap and reliable.
Are Tuk Tuks Safe?
Keep in mind that Thailand does not have the same kinds of regulations that other countries do. Tuk tuks are safer than scooters, and most drivers are safe and courteous. There are always risks, of course.
Tuk Tuk Pricing
You will usually pay 20 to 40 baht depending on the location. Tuk tuk drivers are not supposed to charge tourists more, but they often do, especially at night. Some drivers do tend to take advantage of tourists, but overall you’s still spend less than you would taking a taxi.
If you are going to be going a longer distance you’ll want to go with a bus or taxi as Tuk Tuks may not be comfortable or available for a longer drive. Tuk tuks are ideally for around town and to nearby attractions.
