Trieste Shopping – Shops, Stores, Best Buys & Inside Tips

Trieste Shopping

Shopping in Northeastern Italy is different from what you’ll find in Southern Italy. The town of Trieste provides unique shopping opportunities when visiting.

Centro CommercialeTorri d’Europa

Italian for “Towers of Europe,” this is the largest department store in the entire city. The location of the city is just on the outskirts, but you can take the bus directly to the store, if you don’t feel like taking a cab or walking. There is also a very large underground parking garage if you are driving yourself. In total, there are 120 different stores plus a supermarket, movie theater, and several restaurants.

Libreria Borsatti

If you are a book collector, enjoy old books, or just like the smell of leather and paper, Libreria Borsatti is the destination for you. The book store has been around since the First World War. In fact, as the city of Trieste was formerly part of the Austrian Empire, you can locate a large amount of books on the subject. You can also pick up guidebooks to the city as well and many are printed in English.

First Evening of Summer

If you’re visiting Trieste around in the beginning of summer, you may want to hit the shops. The entire city has an annual sale on the first day of summer (so check your calendar for what the official day is). The “First Evening of Summer Sales” kicks off not only the season, but the tourist season for the city. All shops in the central portion of the city remain open until midnight. Special sales take place on this night only and streets become oversized pedestrian walkways.

Volti di Chiozza

Looking for Italian fashion for bargain prices? Stop by Volti di Chiozza. Here you can find not only off the rack clothing at excellent prices, but you can have clothing tailor-made for you here as well for far less than what you’d pay in Rome and the rest of Southern Italy.
