Transportation in Sydney: Travel Passes
Situated along the shores of the ocean and known as the most heavily populated city in Australia, the city of Sydney is a popular destination for tourists from around the world. However, visitors to the area should remember to buy travel passes for local transportation.
Get Yourself an Opal Card
The Opal Card, which you pre-load with cash, works on Sydney ferries, metropolitan trains, the light rail system, and Sydney buses. You cannot spend more than 15 AUD per day on the card as, after you reach that amount, the rest of your transportation for the day is free. This works as a day ticket that you only pay for if you use the transportation system enough. It’s convenient because you can load it at many places, not just at train stations. Instead, you can reload it a variety of small shops around the city. All you have to do is look for the Opal logo in the store window to know if they’ll reload it or not.
Seniors and Pensioners
In 2009, there was an agreement between the Australian states and territories to extend the privileges for discounted travel to all card holders regardless of where they come from in Australia. This discount does not apply to overseas seniors. However, if you’re a senior from Australia who is traveling to Sydney, you can get a discounted rate on your travel pass.
