To and From Bled by Bus – Transportation

Transportation in Bled, Slovenia

In Bled, Slovenia, there are two main bus stops: Bled and the Bled Union. Bled is the main bus station in the center of town, while the Bled Union is on the east side of town next to the Union Beer Hall. Be sure to know which of the stops is closest to the place you stay at – it’s about a 15-minute walk between the two stops.

Catching a Bus from the Train Station

If you train in, just across the street from the Lesce-Bled train station is a bus stop where you can pick up a bus to the city. You can ask the driver what the bus routes are to get started. The ride is short – about 10 to 15 minutes long, so keep your eyes open. You can exit at the main bus stop for the city of Bled, it is pretty small so it is not a problem walking from place to place.

Rides To and From Lesce and Ljubljana

You can reach Bled from Ljubljana by either bus or train. The journey from Ljubljana by bus is very attractive and displays a lot of mountain views. It takes about an hour and a half and there are fairly regular buses going both ways. If you’re coming from Ljubljana, you might as well take the bus all the way to Bled rather than take the train to Lesce and transfer to the very same bus you could have caught in Ljubljana. If you’re arriving from Austria by train, though, it’s probably best to take the “Lesce-Bled” train route that leads to the bus to Bled. If you’re going from Bled to the train station, be sure to get off at the “Lesce železniška postaja” stop.

Buses to Pokljuka Plateau

If you’re starting a hike to Triglav from here, take a bus to Pokljuka Plateau from the main bus station. The plateau and the start of Triglav trail are about 18 kilometers away, but the ride takes about 40 minutes because of some rough terrain in places. Be sure to check the schedule in advance and plan accordingly, since buses only leave a couple of times a day.

Getting To and From Vintgar Gorge

Getting to Vintgar Gorge is pretty simple. If you obtain a map from the Tourist Information Centre, there’s a list of bus routes displayed on the back. There are two routes you need to get to Vintgar Gorge: Bled-Podhom-Zasip or Bled-Gorje-Krnica. Just tell the driver that you wish to go to Vintgar Gorge and he’ll tell you when to hop off. The closest bus stop from Vintgar Gorge is about a 10 to 15-minute walk from the entrance near Spodnje Gorje. The nearby locals are helpful and can show you the way to go if you’re lost.
