The Sound of Music Tour
Salzburg, Austria is a quaint city surrounded by beautiful scenery. One way to see the surrounding hills is through the Sound of Music Tour.
Joining the Tour
Many people visit Salzburg because it is where the Sound of Music was filmed. There are many attractions, including bus tours, which are centered on the theme of the movie. The tours are pricey and not everyone agrees that they are worth the cost. Taking into account that the tour includes traveling through the hills around the city, some visitors join the tour specifically for this reason. However, the anniversary DVD shown on the return trip to Salzburg can be more informative than the tour guide.
The Sound of Music Tour could be a fantastic opportunity for lovers of the film to visit where the scenes were actually shot. However, the municipality has put so many restrictions in place that it blocks accessibility to many of the important sights. Some of the locations can only be seen from the interior of the bus. For instance, the bus does not go to the mountain where Maria took the children and taught them to sing. The bus driver doesn’t stop at other sights of interest, such as the road where Maria danced up to the house while the children watched from high in the trees.
The tour is advertised as lasting four hours. In fact, it is only a two-hour tour. Besides driving past important shooting locations, the tour includes being dropped off in Mondsee for an hour. This was a waste of time, since only 10 minutes is required to see the city’s sites.
