Toronto - What to Pack - Clothing and Supplies Tips

Toronto covers 641 square miles on the Northwest shore of Lake Ontario in Canada. It's one of the most multicultural cities in the world, with over 100 dialects and languages spoken.

Summers are mostly hot and humid, but the weather can change suddenly to cool and crisp even in June or July, so always bring a sweater or light jacket. Bring strappy or dressy sandals if you plan on getting dressed up, and definitely bring some comfortable, durable walking shoes. For comfort, wear thin and light cottons, linens and sport nylons.

In winter the weather is cold, but generally there's not too much snow. Toronto is also pretty windy (especially downtown and near the lake) so always bundle up in winter. Bring a winter coat/parka, fleece (pants, tops, etc.), sweaters, thermal underwear, a warm hat, gloves and scarf and a warm pair of boots.

If you go camping up north, don't go in June because of the tiny flies that cause bites about 5 times as bad as mosquitos. If you go any other time of the summer, bring insect repellant to ward off hungry mosquitos. It's even a good idea to use it in the suburbs if you are sitting outside at night.

Unless you have a favorite toiletry, you could skip most of it and buy what you need at the popular Shoppers Drug Mart - they have buckets of trial-sized toiletries for between $1 and $3.50 (at time of post), and during spring and fall you can buy a bag of toiletries for around $7. Shoppers Drug Marts can be found all over the place.
