Folks, the plane is boarding, and ready to depart. It’s time to go.
You’ll have to pardon the cliched opening line. After four-plus years and thousands of entries, this is the last entry of Today in Travel as it has come to be known. As we at SmarterTravel concentrate more and more on finding the deals that will save you money on your trips, this blog is transitioning away from its current identity as a daily source of breaking industry news and commentary. But don’t worry, we’ll still bring you updates on fees and other important money-saving news items.
Writing Today in Travel has been fun and rewarding, and I want to thank all of the readers who clicked on our headlines and commented on the stories. I’ve come to know some of you by name, and it was a thrill to feel a genuine connection to all of you. I hope the blog has been useful, and that maybe you learned something along the way. I certainly did.
I’d also like to thank Senior Editor Christine Sarkis, whose editing hand touched nearly every post I wrote, and who contributed plenty of excellent entries of her own, as did many other SmarterTravel editors over the years. The blog was as much Christine’s as it was mine. I also need to thank Managing Editor Josh Roberts, who got the blog started back in 2006.
So, what will I be doing next? I’ll be directing my energies with the rest of the staff toward helping you find the best value trips for your travel dollars.
For those of you who like to keep an eye on developments in travel, allow me to recommend the following sites: CrankyFlier, Tnooz, Airline Biz blog, and Today in the Sky. I’ve found them useful sources of information and I think you will, too.
And with that, I’m off. Thanks for reading Today in Travel. It’s been a blast!
