Tips on Vladivostok Warnings and Dangers – Stay Safe!

Warnings and Dangers in Vladivostok

Known for its bays, mountains and historic mansions, Vladivostok, Russia, is also home to the Maxim Gorky Academic Theater and the Vladivostok Pops Orchestra. However, take notice of your surroundings during your visit.

Common Safety Issues

You may think all ATMs are alike, but those attached to banks are safer than the stand-alone ATMs located on streets. Shop during daylight hours. Criminals are more prevalent at night. Never visit a massage parlor or public sauna unless you want to risk being exposed to illegal drugs and possible contagious diseases.

Crime

When traveling in Russia, be aware that crimes take place frequently. Stay away from skinheads. Avoid walking in isolated areas, especially after dark. If possible, travel with one or two friends or family members. On a positive note, Vladivostok today is no longer the mafia hub from a former era. The city is relatively safe as long as you use common sense as your guide and avoid traveling off the beaten path.

Keep Personal Items Close

Discard invitations to parties featuring an abundant supply of alcoholic beverages and prostitutes. You could end up losing your wallet, credit cards and all your money. Speaking of thieves, guard your wallet, handbag, jewelry and cell phone when using public transportation. Beware of needy children who are only interested in picking your pockets. Do not go to casinos unless you can persuade a security guard to escort you through the front door. In addition, the tap water in Vladivostok is contaminated. Make it a point to insist on bottled water.
