Tips on Varadero Warnings and Dangers – Stay Safe!

Varadero Warnings and Dangers

Varadero, Cuba is a long and slender peninsula along the northern coast of this wonderful Island. With crystal blue waters, powder white sand, and luxurious resorts all around, it is deemed one of the best places to visit in Cuba. Despite this place seeming like paradise, there are just a couple things you’ll want to be aware of before traveling there.

Valuables Left on the Beach

Though the beach seems inviting and safe most the time, it holds a couple of dangers. One warning is to never leave valuables on the shore while taking a dip. If you cannot leave valuables in your room, perhaps you might consider purchasing a water-proof wallet to swim with. Some report their things have gone missing in just ten minutes or less.

Jelly Fish and Sun Screen

Travelers and locals recommend shoes and sunscreen. There are pins that cactus shed all over the ground in some places that can injure you, so you don’t want to ruin your vacation with foot pain or to risk infection. The same goes with sunscreen, it’s highly recommended to wear it. A Cuban sunburn can become very severe in just an hour or two since Cuba is so close to the equator. Jelly fish are another real natural danger and can very much hurt you. An extra painful and dangerous breed of jelly fish, called Mano War, loves the Varadero area. Lifeguards can be seen pulling them out of the water when they spot them to protect tourists.

Scooter Rentals

Tourists should be aware that many scooter rental businesses in Varadero, Cuba do not maintain their bikes enough for optimum safety. Make sure to test drive a scooter before you agree to rent one, as some of them can be dangerous. Another warning is to never drive them drunk.
