Tips on Uganda Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Uganda Warnings and Dangers

Uganda is a beautiful African country with lots of interesting people and places to see, but driving around can be a challenge. You also have to take precautions when it comes to your health.

Ugandan Roads

While you may have smooth driving in the cities, many of the roads around the country are dirt roads in poor condition. This means that you have to adjust the amount of time needed to reach certain destinations. What would normally take a short time on a well-paved road will take much longer on these dirt roads. Try not to drive at night or in foggy or rainy weather as it’s difficult to see any hazards. Also, if you’re spending time in western Uganda and are traveling back and forth from Rwanda, then you will need to remember to drive on the left in Uganda and the right in Rwanda.

Protect Your Health

While in Uganda, be aware that some of the sanitary conditions are not the same as those in more developed countries. For example, it is rare to find anything refrigerated once you leave the cities. Be careful when buying food from street vendors and make sure that all meats you are served are cooked well done. Because of the water conditions, it’s best to avoid fresh vegetables and fruits without a peel unless you know the water source used to prepare them is sanitary or has been boiled. There are a lot of biting insects in Uganda, and some of those carry diseases, so talk to your doctor about any preventive or post-exposure treatment before you go.
