Crime

The U.S. Virgin Islands are a relatively safe vacation destination, but crimes do happen. Purse snatching and pickpocketing are fairly common, as is people stealing items on the beach or breaking into rental cars to steal items. Always be aware of your surroundings, don’t carry much cash, and do not leave expensive items unattended to.

Sun-Related Illnesses

It can get hot in the U.S. Virgin Islands and you can quickly become dehydrated. Sunburns, sunstroke, and dehydration are fairly common in this area. Wear sunscreen, protect your skin, and drink plenty of water throughout the day to avoid these sun-related illnesses.

Wildlife

The last danger when traveling to this island is the wildlife. The wildlife have become very used to humans. The mongoose may nip at you or bother you to get food. Goats can sit in the middle of the road causing traffic hazards. And seagulls will swoop down from the sky and snatch food out of your hand. Wildlife can carry diseases, so while these animals may get close to you and seem friendly, do not pet them or engage with them. It is also highly recommended that you do not feed wildlife.
