Money

Puerto Galera has only three ATM machines, and due to spotty internet service they are often offline, including the ATM inside the bank. A few hotels will give you a cash advance, but will charge a surcharge when checking out. Bring some cash from Manila as very few shops or restaurants accept credit cards.

Water-Based Activities

Puerto Galera is known for its diving and snorkeling in clear waters with a coral reef that attracts brightly colored fish and plant life. However, with any dive there are some dangers. Shoes or fins should be worn because the coral is very sharp and can cut your feet.

Sabang Beach at high tide poses a danger as the water comes right up to the seawall, where the shops, bars, and restaurants are located. At high tide, trying to wade your way home could present more than a passing impediment to your safety.

Street Sellers

The main industry in Puerto Galera is tourism, so locals make their living from visiting tourists. Some of the street sellers are very persistent; following people they think might eventually purchase their souvenirs. Sometimes children also ask for money. On-beach massage by an accredited masseuse is common, however soliciting to do in-room massage is prohibited.
