Positano is one of the most popular villages along the Italian coast. The town’s history goes back many centuries when it was a port town and it still has dangers that may cause problems for any modern day traveler.

This is an incredibly beautiful town with spectacular hills and a lovely shoreline. However, it is also a town filled with precarious staircases and incredibly tight roads. It’s best to bring comfortable walking shoes.

Steep, Steep Hills

The one thing you need to know when you’re here is that the city is situated on a series of terraces and almost every street is on a different level. Even a short walk may require walking up several flights of stairs just to get to a restaurant. If you are taking the bus to Positano, be warned that the bus stop will drop you off at the top of the city and you will have to carry your luggage down to your planned hotel. If you are just visiting for a day, keep that in mind and consider only bringing the basics.  To reach the beach you will probably have to take the stairs, though some hotels have elevators to the beach. However, they’re not always open to the public.

Lots of Height

Keep in mind that many areas in the town are up very high. If you are afraid of heights, this may not be the place for you. Also keep in mind that driving here means confronting roads that are winding and steep. This is a beautiful area but it is one that requires caution.
