Pokhara Warnings and Dangers
Travel to Pokhara if you long for adventure and beautiful scenery while experiencing the full amenities expected in a metropolitan city. Enjoy your vacation while paying attention to your safety.
The Peace Monument
If you plan on visiting the monument, do not go there alone. Visit with a tourist group or friends. There are many stories about visitors who have been robbed.
Sarangkot and Phewa Lake
If you must visit this area, bear in mind that numerous reports exist about young people who are violent toward trekkers. Furthermore, the area consists of numerous armed Maoists. If you do rent a boat, avoid paddling in the dark.
In May, June, July and August, leeches seem to thrive, especially after it rains. Wear shorts in lieu of pants to detract leeches. Avoid walking on grass. Instead, walk on dry ground. There is really no official protection against leeches. They are known to invade your shoes, pants and shirts. If you fear bloodsucking leeches, do not go trekking in the mountains during the rainy season.
Even though a snake charmer may have the ability to charm a cobra or python, the scary part is not when he asks you if you want to touch the snake. The real danger is when he insists that you give him a lot of money. If you refuse, you may experience a potential mugging from members of the charmer’s inner circle.
