  • Makati Warnings and Dangers

  • The City of Makati is one of 16 cities that make up the Manila Metro area in the Philippines. It's a popular coastal destination, and just over 500,000 people call it home year-round. There are a number of dangers to be aware of when traveling here, as with most destinations.

  • Fake Gift Checks

  • Don't give money to people if you are approached with what sounds like a deal that's too good to be true--it usually is. Some travelers report being approached by well-dressed individuals trying to sell discounted gift checks to use here. Don't fall for it.

  • Ask Permission to Take Pictures

  • If you use a larger camera rather than a cell phone camera, ask permission to use it in private places like the Ayala Center. If you disregard this warning you could get approached by security guards.

  • Theft

  • Whether eating at a hotel function or out on the town, bags can be stolen by criminals targeting tourists--as in most destinations. Keep your belongings close at all times, even when using the bathroom or visiting the buffet.
