Louisiana Warnings and Dangers
While Louisiana has long been one of the top tourist destinations in the country, there are some things you should always keep an eye out for. As long as you are plenty careful when you are visiting the lovely state, you’re going to be able to have a great time.
Watch out for Pickpockets
One of the things travelers should be most aware of when traveling to places like New Orleans is that you need to make sure you are keeping track of your wallet at all times. While pickpockets aren’t talked about the way they used to be, say 30 years ago, they are still a big problem in large crowds. If you are hitting New Orleans during Mardi Gras, you are going to come across people that are able to lift a person’s wallet out of their pocket with the smallest amount of work. One of the best tips when you are talking about avoiding pick-pockets is that you shouldn’t store your wallet in your back pocket when you’re out on the street.
While the french quarter is full of fun and rich history, the neighborhoods that directly surround the area are all high crime neighborhoods at night. These are parts of New Orleans you aren’t going to be out walking around in the wee hours, unless you are traveling in a decent sized group. While there are plenty of areas you can feel safe and surrounded, those areas can abruptly end and you’ll find yourself in a bad neighborhood.
