Riders of bicycles and motorcycles love the roads in the hills of Lago di Garda. They enjoy the thrill of going fast around the blind turns, many times swerving into the other lane. Be extra cautious any time that you go around a blind turn. You should also be cautious about speed traps. There are many speed traps that you don’t see in Lago di Garda. They take a picture of you speeding and mail you a ticket. Obey all speed limit signs and keep it under the speed limit to avoid a ticket. Parking prices can be expensive, but it’s much cheaper than parking somewhere you aren’t supposed to.
Thunderstorms form very quickly here because of the lake and the mountains. Heavy rain, high wind, hail, and lightning are all common during storms. If you plan on being outside during the summer months, you should pack your rain gear just in case.
Beware of pick pockets. They are especially common when there are large crowds on the street or in the marketplace. Always keep your wallet in your front pocket, and women should always wear their purse across their body.
Gnats are another concern around the lake in the summer time. If you have a room near the lake with a light on, you will likely end up sharing it with hundreds of gnats. They aren’t harmful, but they can be extremely irritating.
