Kochi Warnings and Dangers
If you are headed out to Kochi for your next vacation or adventure, make sure you read up on everything in the area. This includes the local warnings and dangers listed here.
Kochi is notorious for being one of the worst towns in India for mosquitoes, so make sure you protect yourself against these bugs while you are there. Locals and tourists advise to bring mosquito repellant and wear plenty of clothing to protect your skin. You should also be advised that you can ask for a coil to be placed at your feet if you are eating outside at night to help keep the bugs away as well as keep one plugged into your hotel room to keep your area mosquito free. Odomos is available at most general stores and all medical stores.
As with many towns in India, there is a large gap between the rich and poor. Here you will find plenty of beggars and you can give at your own discretion. Be aware, however, that many beggars are children with severe disabilities. Many of the children sell handmade knick knacks so it gives you something in return, but be aware of anyone who may be trying to scam you. A good rule of thumb is to not get distracted by the state of poverty, give as you see fit, and do not fall victim to any scams that may seem fishy. It can be very distressing to see children in this state but is common in Kochi, so be forewarned before you go.
