Fort Wayne Warnings and Dangers
While Fort Wayne, Indiana is a relatively unassuming place there are some places you’ll want to avoid if you visit. The city itself is very friendly to tourists and visitors from all walks of life, but tread carefully in the following situations.
There are some rough areas in low-income apartment complexes
As with any area in any growing town, there are a couple of areas that are less safe than others when it comes to being out walking around at night. In Fort Wayne, the areas that are a little shadier than others are near the Eden Green projects and Chapel Oaks apartments. Travelers have reported they have been accosted on more than one occasion by groups of people. There have also been an occasion where someone had been asked about whether they were “selling something” when they were just walking through the neighborhood. Most of the citizens in the area are hard working people just trying to get by, but every now and then the people who live in this area can pose a bit of a problem to those who are not used to being in town.
Keep an eye on traffic congestion
Fort Wayne is one of those Indiana cities that might have grown faster than they planned. Because of this, the downtown area can become quite congested. When traveling to the heart of the city, it’s always a good idea to plan to add some time to your travel plans. The city is surrounded by rivers that can cause flooding and congestion as well.
