Tips on Exmouth Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Staying Safe in Exmouth: Warnings and Dangers to Be Aware Of

The small resort town of Exmouth, situated on the North West Cape of Australia, is known for its remote location and beautiful beaches. While this area doesn’t present the same dangers and areas to avoid as larger urban cities, there are a few precautions you’ll want to take when visiting.

Cyclone Season

Throughout the months of January, February and March, Exmouth experiences a rash of cyclone activity. Buildings in the area tend to be cyclone-proof, but the short storms often bring flooding to the area. You may want to avoid traveling to the area during these months to avoid certain issues. The cyclone activity is mainly limited to the off season for tourists.

Wildlife Warnings

Exmouth is a remote area, and therefore a great place to see wildlife. However, it’s important to keep a few safety rules in mind. When swimming or snorkeling in Turquoise Bay, keep an eye out for Blue Bottles, otherwise known as the Portuguese man o’ war. Their stings are painful, and you’ll want to take steps to remove the stingers immediately after being stung by one of these jellyfish-like creatures. While on land, you’ll want to keep an eye out for kangaroos, These national symbols of Australia are known to act erratically on the local roads, particularly at night and in the early morning, so take extra care when driving.

General Tips for Visitors

Due to the remote location, you may find that there are some comforts you won’t have access to while visiting here. The area has few shops and stores, and visitors to the local camp grounds may need to bring their own water supplies when camping. There is no postal service in Exmouth, but there is a P.O. box system.
