Tips on Essaouira Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Essaouira Warnings and Dangers

The port city of Essaouira lies on the Atlantic Coast in the West African nation of Morocco. Although travelers claim that it is much safer than Marrakech, there are still Essaouira warnings and dangers to look out for when traveling here.

Essaouira Bus Station Warnings and Dangers

When you exit your bus at the Essaouira Gare Reutiere bus station, chances are you will be hassled by people wanting to help you with your bags or rent you an apartment. If you do not want their services, politely refuse and then turn right and follow the street which eventually leads to the main Medina gate, Bab Doukalla. You will find blue taxis lined up that can take you to your hotel.  Just be sure to agree upon a price beforehand.

Essaouira Weather Warnings and Dangers

Throughout the year, Esssaouira has a pleasant climate. Winds often have a cooling effect which can sometimes fool tourists into thinking it’s not that hot. Regardless of the cool winds, the sun is very strong here so be sure to wear sunblock both on and off the beaches. The wind also kicks up sand that can easily get in your eyes so have an extra pair of sunglasses on hand.

Other Warning and Dangers in Essaouira

If the weather is bad, beware the fish. When fisherman can’t get a fresh catch, restaurants will  sometimes revert to what they have on hand in the freezer. This can be disastrous for sensitive stomachs. Finally, while the roads in Essaouira are even and paved, you need to be careful when getting out of a taxi. There could be a larger hole dug into the sidewalk, a problem that is seen in other areas of Morocco as well.
