Dublin Warnings and Dangers
Dublin is a great place to explore new cultures, visit unique pubs, and take strolls to various tourist attractions and museums. However, as any other large city, it’s essential to stay cautious every time you are traveling in Dublin, especially at night or near tourist areas which may attract criminals.
Drinking Late at Night
When visiting Dublin, you are absolutely bound to run into a myriad of pubs, lounges, and even clubs. Most tourists enjoy the ability to have drinks which are inexpensive, leading them to become severely intoxicated in the process. While some pubs are more expensive, you are most likely to save money at smaller and more close-knit locations. Simply always make sure you have a friend or multiple friends with you when walking home late to ensure you arrive safely without becoming a target of a mugging or a robbery.
Take Care of Your Valuables
Although it is not common for pickpocket crimes to occur after dark, it is especially important to keep your money and valuables on you hidden at all times when attending festivals or crowded markets. While crowded markets may make you feel safer (especially in relation to violent crime), they are hotspots for those who enjoy pick pocketing others, especially tourists or those that they deem to have large amounts of cash on them and other valuables. Keep expensive valuables locked away in your hotel (such as shiny rings, watches, and gold chains or necklaces). Be sure to remain of your surroundings at all times. Use purses with shorter straps and for men, avoid keeping your wallet in your back pocket as this is an easy target for pick pocketers in larger crowds.
Traffic Transportation and Unmarked Taxi Drivers are Risky
Because there is no shortage of taxi cab drivers in Dublin, it’s quite easy to get from one destination to the next. It is highly advisable to order a taxi in advance to ensure you have a ride and arrive at the location you have in mind on time. However, any time you get into a cab off of the streets in Dublin, be sure to check the company of the taxi and whether or not it is marked. Some scammers in Dublin may charge higher fees and can be potentially dangerous in terms of robberies and muggings.
