Warnings and Dangers in Brunei
Known for its rainforest reserves, beaches and golden domes, Brunei is an intriguing place to visit. However, fascinating cities still have their drawbacks so you need to prepare your trip with safety in mind.
Prohibited Beverages and Foods
In Brunei, strict observance of Muslim laws mean that you are not permitted to drink beer, whiskey or even wine. Selling alcohol in Brunei is also against the law. In addition, you are not allowed to eat any products containing pork. Muslim halal dietary laws prohibit eating meat derived from pigs. Respect for the traditions of another culture goes a long way in Brunei.
Cigarettes
Besides the fact that alcoholic beverages are illegal, it is also difficult to buy cigarettes or tobacco unless you find a clerk selling them under the counter. If you smoke, you should know that the law only permits you to bring a maximum of three cigarette packs into the area. Observe all the no smoking signs located in bus stations, restaurants and other designated areas. If you defy the law, you may receive a large fine.
Snakes and Jellyfish
Swim in the South China Sea at your own risk. Poisonous jellyfish share the waters with human swimmers. The same advice applies if you enjoy surfing. Furthermore, snakes seem to enjoy living in Brunei.
