Tips on Bermuda Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Bermuda Warnings and Dangers

The British island of Bermuda is a famous vacation spot with luxurious white sand, crystal blue waters, and wonderful resorts. There are always some warnings and dangers that travelers should be aware of to stay safe when traveling to new places. Here are all the things to watch out for in Bermuda.

Riptide

Horseshoe Bay beach is a beautiful location that should be enjoyed by all, but please enjoy it with caution. The waters are reportedly rough and the undercurrent is much stronger than you’d expect. Fortunately, watchful lifeguards are on duty throughout the summer. Lifeguards are not on duty regularly for the rest of the year though, when it is advised to use extreme caution. It is recommended to always have a swimming partner when possible.

Intense Sun and Portugese Man o’ Wars

Sun hats and sunscreen are recommended for travelers and even used by locals. The sun is more intense in Bermuda because it is an isolated island close to the equator. Nothing can ruin a vacation quite like a 3rd degree sunburn.

Another beach hazard tourists should be on guard for is the notorious man o’ war, whose sting can be particularly painful. Lifeguards can be seen extracting them from the water to protect tourists. Tourists are advised to avoid them at all costs, but don’t let them scare you from enjoying the beach, they are avoidable with mindfulness.

Scooter Rentals

Scooter rentals in Bermuda are something to consider as there are no rental cars available at all. Keep in mind that people drive on the left side of the road in Bermuda, and there are over 500 scooter accidents on the island each year involving tourists. Also, be advised that all scooter drivers are required by law to wear their helmets at all times driving. An accident could ruin the perfect vacation, so it is best to stay safe.

Road Conditions and Sidewalks

Travelers report very narrow roads and a lack of sidewalks. Extreme caution is warranted when driving, but most drivers here are very courteous and the speed limit is never above 30.
