Tai O Tourist Traps
Tai O is a small fishing town that is located on Lantau Island, in Hong Kong. It is typically a quaint and inviting place to visit, but you should still watch out for tourist traps in the area.
Overpriced Dry Seafood
Tai O specializes in the fishing trade and has many delicious restaurants and stores where you can shop at. Dried seafood is a traditional meal in the area, and there are many stores that sell this type of food. Unfortunately, some of them will try to take advantage of you. If you haven’t shopped around, you’ll miss out on affordable prices and instead end up paying more than you should. Some locations charge five times as much as other locations for dried seafood, so take care to do some shopping around before you settle on a place to buy food from.
The Pink Dolphin
In Tai O village, you’ll have an opportunity to catch a rare sight of pink dolphins. There are two companies who run trips to view them very frequently. They are both located on a bridge, one on either side, but you’ll want to be cautious before settling on one to use. Each competes with the other, so you’ll want to compare prices before settling on a boat. Also, make sure you take time to talk to the boat operators. Some visitors have complained about bad service, particularly when tourists have chartered a boat ride that included less than a full boat of people.
